Welcome to the City of Boca Raton
Boca Raton is centrally located along South Florida’s east coast, equidistant from West Palm Beach to the north and Fort Lauderdale to the south. The City provides a unique blend of urban and suburban lifestyles. The 24th most populous city in Florida, Boca Raton covers over 29 square miles and enjoys five mile of oceanfront.
Incorporated during the land boom of the 1920’s, Boca Raton experienced another great land boom in the 1960’s. During that decade, IBM made Boca Raton home to a large computer facility and Florida Atlantic University opened its doors. Both these events marked the beginning of Boca’s growth in the areas of corporate business and higher education. Today, the City has three top level colleges and universities – FAU, Lynn University, Palm Beach Community College – and several well established commerce parks – Arvida Park of Commerce, Boca Corporate Center, FAU Research and Development Park. These attributes combine with ease of access to transportation and workforce availability to place Boca Raton a cut above other cities.
From humble agricultural beginnings, the City of Boca Raton has become a regional business leader. By attracting cutting edge businesses and corporate headquarters over the last several decades, the City has benefitted from a stable business environment. However, this is not the time to simply rest on one’s laurels. Increased competition and global economic conditions require a pro-active approach to future economic development. Attracting and retaining successful businesses means that Boca Raton will continue to have the high quality of life that makes it the premier community in South Florida.
